Woodcut and Linocut (Reduction Technique)

In the reduction technique, I use a single wood or linoleum block to create a multicoloured print. I usually begin with the lightest tone, which is often the colour of the paper itself, typically white. The areas that need to retain this colour are cut away.
Next, I print the first colour, usually slightly darker than the paper, for which I carefully mix the ink. After this printing stage, I cut away the areas that should keep this colour. This process of printing and carving is repeated several times, gradually building the image, usually from light to dark.
Because the block is reduced further at each stage, it cannot be reused once the print is finished, and the edition size must be determined in advance. The result is a layered, rich and carefully constructed print, produced using the relief printing technique.
